LHS Summer Reading Program
IMPORTANT PAPERS CAN BE FOUND AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE. SCROLL DOWN.
The purpose of the summer reading program is to stem the tide of learning loss over the summer break, while at the same time promoting recreational reading and book discussion among students and faculty. We believe that we have created an enjoyable program that will keep students interested and engaged in learning over the summer months.
The program has three basic components: read, write, discuss. Students are expected to read one book of their choosing over the summer vacation. As they read, they should complete a book summary sheet that will be collected by their 7th hour teacher on Wednesday, August 21st, 2013. Students will present their books in 7th hour on Wednesday, August 21st during a school-wide book discussion. In addition, students who read more than 5 books will be entered to win a prize.
Program information and forms will be distributed in May report cards, plus made available in the main high school and guidance offices. Contact the LHS library for more information. All forms can be found below. "Student Information" provides information on the program. The "Book Summary Sheet" is the form that students must complete after reading their summer reading book. Their are two of these forms. They are the same, but one allows students to fill in the information and the other is a blank copy. The final sheet "ENG Summer Reading Letter" outlines required summer reading for the English department. The novels on this list satisfies both the English dept. and the LHS summer reading requirements.
We look forward to another summer of reading!
